The 20th century can be termed as a renaissance period in the history of Tamil literature. Due to the influences of western literature, many new literary forms emerged in Tamil. Western cultural links and socio-political life had many influences on the life of the Tamil language. It would not be an exaggeration to say that it was the 19th and 20th centuries that revived folk literature in Tamil, even though they were already in Tamil. There is a close connection between the thought and emotion of the creator and the style of writing. Writing is a drain on the growth and emotion of the mind.
