Abstract

Apart from the internal and external thoughts in the Sangha literature, many subtle things have also been recorded by the poets in the literature.  They have also used many of the things they found in their lived situations in the literature at appropriate places.  Thus they used many things.  All the elements of nature are embodied in the literature.  One such element is botany.  Kurinji Mullai Marutham Neythal Palai identified the species of plants that can grow in each department and recorded them in the respective departments.  In addition to recording, they have also recorded the structure and use of specific plants from an environmental point of view. In the period when botany is developing in many ways, the thoughts of Sangha literary scholars on botany are formed to help today's study.  Punnai tree thrives in wet and dry lands.  Weaving hymns have recorded that this tree became an integral part of the land-dependent life and an inseparable part of the life of the fishermen and the life of the birds.  Sangha literary songs have made it clear that the Punnai tree was in tune with the people's life and culture.
