My Lost Lover - Ki. Ra’s Kannimai

Abstract

Ki.Ra’s short story ‘Kannimai’ Literally meaning ‘Virginhood’ tells the story of Nachiaramma, who transforms much after her marriage. Before her marriage she was much sought after and worshipped by one and all because of her generosity.
The same Nachiaramma, after her marriage and motherhood changes a lot and run after money and becomes a miser.
In Hindu culture a girl child is worshipped as goddess. But once she is married she lost her god like status and becomes an ordinary woman.
Nachiaramma also becomes an ordinary woman, only interested in the well being of her own off springs. Husband and brothers of Nachiaramma wonders about the cause of her change and yearn for the resurrection of good old Nachiaramma.
