Abstract

The study of Valaithottathu Ayyan is a comprehensive field study. According to the mythological history of this sacred site, it is a distinguished shrine established and propagated through the guidance of a Siddhar (saint). The Valaithottathu Ayyan Temple in Tiruppur is a temple that is deeply revered and worshipped by the people of the Palladam region. This temple is highly respected by the people of the Kongu region.
Through field research, one can understand the unique significance of this temple, which is believed to cure chronic illnesses and remove various afflictions. Among the people of the Kongu region, there is a belief that if a small amount of the anthill soil (putrumann) obtained from the Valaithottathu Ayyan Temple is sprinkled in homes and agricultural fields, snakes and poisonous insects will not approach those places.
The special feature of this temple is its belief in relieving incurable ailments, removing doshas (spiritual afflictions), and alleviating the sufferings of devotees. Unlike the sanctums of many other temples, the sanctum of this temple allows an ordinary devotee to enter, pray directly to the deity, and collect the sacred anthill soil located near the deity.
Devotees who visit this temple firmly believe that the anthill soil, which is used for medicinal purposes, never diminishes no matter how much is taken. This enduring abundance of the sacred soil is regarded as one of the remarkable features of the temple.
