Abstract

Lord Murugan is considered an important deity worshiped in the Indian subcontinent since ancient times. He is primarily worshipped by the Tamil people, earning him the title “Tamil God”. During the Sangam era, he was venerated as the deity of the Kurinji (mountainous) region. Sangam literary works, dating between the 3rd century BCE and the 5th century CE, praise Murugan as “the red-hued god seated on a blue peacock,” described as youthful, radiant, and the beloved deity of the Tamil people.
