Cultural Concern and Textual Versions of the Short Story

Abstract

There are many words in circulation in the society that refer to organs, sexual sensations and sexual functions. These
words have been transformed into bad words by society. In the course of time, the concept of good × bad, good, good
× ill entered into words. This led to the separation of good word × bad word. In the Sangam literature, the word ‘Alkul’ is used naturally in one hundred and two places to refer to the genitalia of a woman. The word ‘Alkul’ is interpreted by the Chennai Tamil Internet Dictionary and the Tamil Dictionary of the Kazhagam as ‘Penkuri’. This word is considered a bad word. Due to cultural concerns, the term is not explained in most places in the field of education. It was printed at various levels, such as the Sangam literary text, the Short Volume Research Edition, the People’s Edition and the Student Edition, and was taken to the reading floor. This article examines the changes that cultural ethics has made to the word ‘al-Qul’ through the textual editions that have arisen for the short volume.
