There exists a species of cat known as the Punugu Cat (civet cat). The fluid secreted from the body of this civet cat is called Savvadu. Some scholars believe that the Jawadhu Hills derived their name from the abundance of these civet cats in the region. Informants also state that these civet cats are still found in the forests today and that their distinctive fragrance can be sensed even when they pass nearby. Another explanation suggests that the hills may have been named Savvadu Malai because of the presence of numerous sandalwood trees in the region.
2026-02-01T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Journal of Tamil Culture and Literature https://forschung.in/journals/index.php/jtcl/article/view/455 தமிழர்களின் மரபுவழி ஆடல்களும், விளையாட்டுக்களும் 2026-03-09T10:15:54+00:00 R. Professional dance was also described as a sport. Sports and dance not only enhanced the efficiency of traditional occupations, but also helped to develop knowledge governance, insurgency governance, movement governance, etc. Through these, the spirit of “joy” was developed. The goal of play is to bring joy, explains the Tolkappiyam, “The game of wealth is a game of perception, and there are four kinds of pleasures” (Tol.1205).In the continuous struggle of man with the environment, games and dances helped to increase human resources, increase strength, and assimilate the environment. They provided peace, comfort, self-defence, joy, etc. They reinforced group spirit and group activities. Dances and games help to understand the evolutionary development or evolutionary behaviours of living beings.
2026-02-01T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Journal of Tamil Culture and Literature
